On March 4, 1960, Mobay moved from temporary offices on Route 19 in South Hills into its newly constructed Building One on what was then a 24-acre site in Robinson Township. Today, Bayer’s North American headquarters complex has grown to 17 buildings spread over 300 acres.

In a June, 2000 White House ceremony, William Jefferson Clinton presented Rebecca Lucore, Manager of Communications at Bayer Corporation, with the President’s Service Award in national recognition of the company’s Making Science Make Sense® (MSMS) initiative. Headquartered in Pittsburgh, MSMS is a company-wide program that advances science literacy across the U.S. through hands-on, inquiry-based science learning, employee volunteerism and public education. The President’s Service Award is bestowed annually for volunteer community service aimed at solving the country’s most critical social problems.

On April 3, 1995, the company known first as Mobay and then as Miles, Inc. was renamed Bayer Corporation — a right that trademark issues had long denied in the United States. For the first time in 75 years, Bayer presented a single familiar face to Pittsburgh and around the world.

Bayer worked with IBM in 1994 to produce the first-ever cosmetic computer parts for commercial use that incorporate recycled plastic. The parts, which combined reclaimed resin with virgin polycarbonate blend, proved to be economically competitive with those made of virgin-only material.

An 18-ft. replica of the Bayer logo stands atop Building Four on the company’s Robinson Township campus. Erected in 2005, the illuminated Bayer Cross is visible at all hours to the thousands of commuters who travel the airport corridor each day.
